Richmond Hill, Ontario - October 26, 2001: The Aeronautical Information Documents Units (AIDU) of the UK Royal Air Force, publishers of aeronautical charts and other essential documents, has made the move to using PCI Geomatics Geomatica technology. Geomatica is the single fully functional geospatial solution from PCI Geomatics that offers the ability to perform remote sensing, GIS, cartographic, and photogrammetric operations from a single integrated software platform.
The AIDU, whose motto is "Quo Certior Eo Tutior" (The More Fully Informed, The Safer), will use Geomatica for their data translation and various other production tasks. The unit is responsible for the drawing, printing, and distribution of aeronautical information, which is primarily for use by British military personnel directly concerned with the operation and safety of aircraft. The information generated by the AIDU is published and shared in the form of documents, charts, or digital data known collectively as Flight Information Publications (FLIPs). These fall into one of three categories: Planning, En-Route, and Terminal. Although Flight Information Publications (FLIPs) are produced primarily for the Armed Forces, most are available on a repayment basis to civilian operators.
Geomatica actively unites the many separate technologies used for remote sensing image processing, GIS, and digital cartography into a single free flowing modular environment with advanced viewing capabilities. PCI Geomatics is currently preparing to release Version 8.2 of Geomatica, the newest version of their internationally successful geomatics solution. This release is scheduled to be shipping to customers before January 2002.
