Bluetopia™ will enable Bluetooth technology on SunScreen PCs and Compaq Ipaq running Strata’s Penmap software

Louisville, Kentucky – October 16, 2001 – Stonestreet One, a leading provider of Bluetooth hardware, software, and engineering services, has licensed its Bluetooth Protocol Stack, Bluetopia™, to Strata Software, a leading provider of geographical information systems (GIS), global positioning systems (GPS) and surveying software, and wearable computer products based in the United Kingdom. Strata will use Bluetopia™ on its line of ruggedized SunScreen and Compaq Ipaq PCs to provide the upper layers of the Bluetooth protocol interface, permitting the PCs to wirelessly communicate with other similarly enabled GPS units, PCs, or networks via radio frequency.

“We are excited about the opportunity to get Bluetopia™ into the hands of more end-users,” said Dick Smith, president of Stonestreet One. “Strata is in the forefront of an industry for which the Bluetooth standard is perfectly suited, so we have been pleased to work with them over the past year to enable their GIS, GPS, and surveying products with Bluetooth technology. Licensing our Bluetooth protocol stack to them brings the project full circle.”

Bluetooth, a new wireless technology, developed by a group of leading computer, telecommunications, and semiconductor companies, provides an open standard for short-range communications. Designed to enable wireless transmission of data and voice, Bluetooth technology eliminates the need for cables between electronic devices by utilizing a small, low-cost, low-power radio link.

Stonestreet One, based in Louisville, Kentucky, designs, develops, and integrates embedded systems and wireless data applications for a diverse group of customers including leading companies in industries such as computer hardware, mobile communications, food service equipment, biomedical devices, and material handling systems. The company, an Associate Member of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group, specializes in Bluetooth technology, offering engineering services, hardware, and software for developers and end users. Stonestreet One’s BQB-listed Bluetooth Protocol stack, Bluetopia™, which aids developers in creating Bluetooth compliant applications, runs on a variety of operating systems and microprocessor architectures including Intel, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, ARM, and DSPs. Strata Software, based in Bradford, United Kingdom, offers a unique and diverse product line encompassing hardware and software for GIS, GPS, and surveying. Strata’s most prominent software product, Penmap, is used for land, building, forestry, construction, and environmental surveying. The companion hardware features “wearable” computer products. Strata distributes its products worldwide. For more information visit www.penmap.com .
