San Diego, October 2001 -- Aerials Express announced the launch of their Image Web Server web-site,
www.AerialsExpress.com, that serves over 40 high-resolution colour mosaics of America's major cities and will display all American cities that exceed a population of one million by early 2002.
This truly unique web-site allows users to roam, zoom and pan major American cities over the Internet at lightning speeds. The user-friendly interface allows visitors to easily search cities by entering the address, city or state. Once the city of choice displays users can manipulate the data to pin point the exact location of interest to select imagery to purchase.
Aerial Express used Earth Resource Mapping's image processing software ER Mapper, to process all the colour mosaics of all major U.S cities. ER Mapper allowed Aerial Express to perform three basic functions using high altitude mono photography of very large areas. The first function uses USGS DOQQ's for control. This enabled Aerial Express to match photos together perfectly. The second function controls the colour balance and density so the finished mosaic looks like a singe image, using the ER Mapper wizards for this purpose.
Finally the most powerful function used was ER Mapper's patented compression technology Enhanced Compressed Wavelet (ECW) technology. ECW allowed Aerial Express to compress approximately 50 Gigabyte images by a ratio of 20:1,thus reducing them to a manageable size. Aerial Express also uses Earth Resource Mapping's Image Web Server to serve this compressed imagery across the Internet.
