District of North Vancouver releases GeoWeb
Jump to Website Here
The District of North Vancouver's GIS Department is pleased to announce the live release of its new GIS website called GeoWeb. This is a very unique service since GeoWeb has been built on a single webserver solely dedicated to deliver maps and spatial data. This new website offers a robust mix of spatial information aimed at both our corporate staff and our community.
interACTIVE maps use ArcIMS technology
The main attraction of the site is our Internet mapping applications that we call interACTIVE maps. Built using ArcIMS web-mapping software the Property Information Explorer allows you to enter your address and
then retrieve property details. The Parks Online application allows you to search for a specific park by one of many characteristics such as a boat launch, or walking trails. Each one of these GIS tools is integrated with Tempest and Permit Plan enterprise applications to ensure timely and accurate updates to the information you're viewing. Look for many more new interACTIVE maps to come.
Every digital map we make is free
When we started GeoWeb one of the concepts we felt strongly about was to make our digital maps free to the public. With that we've served up all of our maps from Addresses to Zoning so that users can quickly access our maps online. When an update occurs each map is regenerated automatically and is served up on GeoWeb. You can always rely on updated information.
Products catalogue
Another feature of GeoWeb is the ability for users to purchase geographic data online. We've made available all of our spatial products in an easy to find online catalogue.
Resources and information
Since GeoWeb is both a tool to be used by government staff as well as the general public we've added many resources for both user groups. Support for our desktop GIS application - GeoTools as well as white papers, links and other useful resources can be found on the site.
Coming soon...
We feel that GeoWeb will become an important portal to even more specialized geographic information in the near future. One day users will be able to access detailed trails maps, water service connections, sensitive environmental data and much more. With the use of ArcIMS our inspectors will soon be able to use GIS in the field and access the system from hand-held devices.
"We are excited about the potential GeoWeb will bring to our community and we hope that everyone can benefit from this new level of service." --- Shawn McLeod, GIS Manager.
