REMCHINGEN, Germany & SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 4, 2001--
BORG's New-Generation QuoVadis(R) Navigation Terminal to
Offer Full Interactive, Real-Time Navigation Information
Capabilities At Price Point Attractive to Consumers
BORG Instruments, a European leader in automotive electronics, and SiRF Technology, Inc., a leading developer of location technology based on global
positioning system (GPS), today announced that they have partnered to deliver a new-generation, low-cost navigation and telematics terminal from BORG, called
QuoVadis(R). SiRF's GPS architecture provides the location engine for this innovative new product, which offers low cost, interactive, real-time telematics
services, itinerary calculation, maps, turn-by-turn navigation, point-of-information access, and traffic information throughout Europe and the U.S.
The combination of the QuoVadis(R) terminal with SiRF's SiRFstar(TM)II GPS architecture represents the best performance available today in a real-time
automotive navigation terminal -- at a breakthrough price point.
"Our vision has always been to make location information as accurate and affordable as we possibly can. BORG's low cost navigation terminal, QuoVadis(R),
is a major breakthrough in the new era of affordable automotive navigation systems for mainstream consumers, that can really drive high volumes," according to
Kanwar Chadha, founder and vice president of marketing for SiRF. "Our cooperation with BORG is a demonstration of our strategy to work with worldwide,
innovative tier-one suppliers and after-market terminal manufacturers to ensure best in class automotive navigation -- which is a key market priority for us."
"BORG Instruments has selected SiRF for the outstanding performance of its GPS architecture and its future product roadmap, which we view as the most
advanced solution on the market, as well as its ease of integration," said Danaiel Aufaure, general manager for BORG Instruments. "By relying on SiRF's
expertise and technology, we have developed the most innovative product available today in the automotive navigation marketplace. The partnership between our
companies demonstrates how we can combine state-of-the-art technologies to become a major leader in this automotive innovation."
QuoVadis(R) is part of a series of products based on SiRF's GPS architecture, and specifically targeted to the requirements of mainstream automotive
professionals. The basic system enables all navigation features, including speech synthesis, within the automotive environment. The QuoVadis(R) is the first
telematics automotive terminal based on Windows CE for automotive which allows easy integration of additional functions e.g. Bluetooth, WAP, Internet and
multimedia applications. SiRF and BORG Instruments will exhibit and demonstrate this automotive technology and services at IAA Frankfurt Automotive Show
(13-23 September 2001).
SiRFstar Ideal for Consumer Devices
The SiRFstar GPS architecture offers a range of product choices enabling complete GPS functionality that is high performance, yet with a very small footprint,
making it an ideal technology for integration into mainstream consumer devices. With its unique set of features such as SnapStart(TM) for quick start-up,
SnapLock(TM) for fast acquisition and FoliageLock(TM) for high sensitivity, the SiRFstar architecture based products provide enhanced GPS-based location
information in urban canyons and dense foliage -- where traditional GPS architectures have significant problems. Another SiRFstar feature is TricklePower(TM)
for power management, which enables longer battery life for portable devices. SiRF is also developing a set of technologies to facilitate and optimize GPS
integration into specific platforms, such as automobiles, cell phones and personal digital assistants.
