Images of Infamy: World Trade Center September 11, 2001 from SPOT ImagingJump to Website HereThe following images were taken from over 500 miles in space by the SPOT satellites. The actual digital image files can be downloaded by going to the SPOT ftp site (ftp://ftp.spot.com/pub/september). This file also contains access to downloadable “freeware” for viewing the imagery. New York City –The pre-event image is 10 meter resolution. The September 11 image is a 20 meter multispectral image, with an enhanced middle infrared band to highlight the actual fires (see the red spots at the base of the smoke plume) at the World Trade Center. The three SPOT satellites were acquiring daily imagery of the disaster sites in response to client requests, as part of the investigation and mitigation efforts.
