Vancouver, British Columbia - September 17, 2001 - IDELIX Software Inc.
today announced they are the recipients of a $97,500 contribution from the
National Research Council (NRC) of Canada, helping to foster future research
and development of their visualization technology known as Pliable Display
Technology (PDT).
This project will produce core technology associated with the IDELIX/PDT
platform strategy involving the use of PDT technology across a wide range of
desktop, Internet, and handheld/wireless applications.
"When we undertake due diligence on a project proposal we look for the level
of technical innovation and risk," said Julia Rylands, Industrial Technology
Advisor for the NRC. "We want the company to innovate and grow. We also
consider the market opportunity, the strategy of the company and whether
they have the capability to take the product through to commercialization."
Pliable Display Technology is a patents-pending virtual lens technology
designed to solve the "screen real estate problem" and improve the
productivity and workflow efficiency of end users in a number of vertical
markets as they work with image and data sets. It is a technology targeted
at people who rely on their existing pan and zoom functions for data
exploration, editing and annotation, and analysis. PDT lets a user roam
freely within the context of an image and magnify detail as it appears
within the focal region of the lens. The difference between PDT and
existing zoom technologies is that the PDT lens does not hide any of the
detail in the reference image space. As a result, it is much easier to
maintain orientation and continuity in the data set, eliminating the need
for a separate reference window. PDT allows the user to see the detail
without losing a view of the big picture.
"In essence, Pliable Display Technology (PDT), is poised to change the way
people view and value their information by addressing a fundamental problem
faced by nearly every computer user, known as the "screen real estate
problem"," said Stuart Bourhill, IDELIX President and COO. "PDT is solving
this problem across many industries including GIS, Remote Sensing, Computer
Aided Design, Electronic Media, and Handheld and Wireless Devices. The
funding from the Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP) is a vote of
confidence on behalf of the NRC, and greatly helps IDELIX accelerate
research and development efforts behind this innovative technology, and
respond to the increasing market demand."
The Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP) is the National Research
Council's (NRC) http://www.nrc.ca/ award-winning innovation assistance
service for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). IRAP's mandate is to
stimulate wealth-creation for Canada through technological innovation.
