FINAL CALL FOR PAPERS -- "Dissolving Boundaries? Canada in a Globalizing World"

  • www.hssfc.ca/english/congress/congress.html
    Between May 25 and June 1, 2002, the University of Toronto will host the Congress of the Social Sciences and the Humanities, the largest multi-disciplinary academic gathering in North America. The theme of the conference is "Boundaries". As part of this event, the Canadian Studies Program at University College and the Canadian Association of Geographers are jointly hosting a colloquium on "Boundaries: Geographies" to be held on May 28, 2002.

    The specific focus of the colloquium is "Dissolving Boundaries? Canada in a Globalizing World." Sessions will be organized around the following four themes:
    * Transnationalism and Identity Politics
    * Nation-States and Borders
    * Environmental Frontiers
    * Cultural Exchange(s)

    We warmly invite scholars from around the world to offer papers that address one of these four themes. Participants may emphasize international pressures for change and the manner in which the Canadian paradigm can make a distinctive contribution to resolving some of these issues. Our goal is to create a forum that permits an interdisciplinary approach to the discussion of these complex issues.

    Please send an abstract of not more than 300 words and a 100 word biographical sketch by January 31, 2002 to either:
