Scanning to File and Email

STAMFORD, Conn., Jan. 9, 2002--
XEScan Solution is a dedicated scanning system for simple digital conversion of legacy documents
Xerox Engineering Systems (XES), a leader in wide-format document management solutions, today announced a cutting-edge
monochrome scan-to-file system that delivers unmatched image quality - the XEScan Solution. This new system provides a
dedicated scan-to-file and walk-up scan-to-email solution to easily save and transmit wide-format technical documents. Once
scanned to file, documents are accessible to be printed on any wide-format network printer.
The XEScan Solution is expressly developed for scanning engineering documents, such as aerials, GIS maps, blueprints and
CAD line art. It offers automatic filters or modes that optimize quality for difficult originals, enhancing scanned images to make
them look even better than the originals.
The XEScan Solution incorporates the Synergix Scan System-SA, XEScan Software and IEEE 1394 interface card to create
a flexible, yet high quality, scanning option. The Synergix Scan System-SA uses a full width patented array of CMOS
self-calibrating image sensors to deliver exact image reproduction without resizing the image data. Unlike most CCD based
scanners, the sensors are completely self-calibrating for image accuracy and eliminate the need for regular servicing to re-align
the camera.
"The XEScan Solution is an intuitive system that offers customers a flexible and easy-to-use scanner with the added benefit of
unparalleled image quality," said Marc Neiss, Director of Technical Document Solutions, XES. "Users will also experience
dramatic time savings with this solution because of its dedicated scan-to-file and walk-up scan-to-email functions, making it easy
to save and digitally transmit any wide-format document."
In addition to its leading imaging technology, the XEScan Solution was created with a unique user interface that offers four
user definable preset keys. These keys optimize the scanning process to a one-touch operation. They can be configured for
items such as batch mode, filter definitions, output resolution, file format and background suppression, ensuring fast and efficient
scanning with every job.
Additional features that make the XEScan Solution the most flexible choice for any printing environment include:
-
Automatic width and length detection, capable of scanning documents up to a 1/2 inch thick
-
Variable scan resolution from 100 to 400 dots per inch (dpi)
-
Variable speed; choose from 2 or 4 inches per second (ips) scanning
-
Easy upgrades to protect your investment; converting from 2 to 4 ips scanning speed or adding color scan-to-file only
requires a simple software upgrade via the Web
-
Job accounting to keep track of print jobs by user
