CARIS Training Course Introduces IHO S-57 Standard for ENC Production

Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada - CARIS is hosting a five-day training
course to introduce the IHO S-57 Standard for ENC Production March 18-22,
2002 at the Minerals Management Services Facilities in Herndon, VA.
Participants will be introduced to the International S-57 Standard, for
digital hydrographic data transfer and for Electronic Navigational Chart
(ENC) Production.
Basis for course development has been CARIS' considerable experience
working with Government and National Hydrographic Offices and other ENC
data producers and users in Canada, the USA, and worldwide.
The technical training course considers the S-57 data production workflow,
data structuring requirements, S-57 object creation, and quality control
procedures. It also includes practical exercises using CARIS Hydrographic
Object manager (HOM), the world's leading S-57 ENC production software.
Topics presented in this course include: overview of electronic charting
background theory and concepts; introduction to the S-57 Standard; the ENC
Product Specification contained within the S-57 Standard; and a discussion
of S-57 data production workflow, data structuring and layering, S-57
object encoding, data management and QA/QC.
This training course is open to all interested parties. While there are no
prerequisites, a background working with hydrographic and marine data and
digital mapping systems would be useful.
