About MGCS

“The MGCS@COSI program is important to me because it provides an opportunity for me to look toward my future.” - Alexxus

Our Mission
The MGCS program helps students take their knowledge and interpersonal skills to new levels. By engaging families in program opportunities, MCGS increases family involvement in their children’s education and personal development. MGCS prepares its scholars for post-secondary education by helping students choose successful life paths which can be complemented by a healthy home environment.

Our History
The first Miracle-Gro Program was implemented with Project Reach Youth and the Hagedorn Family Partnership L.P. in 1988 in Brooklyn, New York. The program began supporting worthy scholars in Columbus in 2002.

Our Scholars
Our scholars are students at one of seven Columbus public high schools: Columbus Alternative, Africentric Early College, Eastmoor, Beechcroft, Brookhaven, Centennial, and Fort Hayes. Scholars submitted an application that included report cards and a teacher recommendation. Each meets the free or reduced lunch income standard.

Requirements for Scholars and Parents
To receive this college scholarship, scholars must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA, attend MGCS programs regularly, and demonstrate excellent behavior. Parents and guardians commit to a minimum of twelve hours of family involvement per year.
