Gadgets for Preschoolers

Pulley Chairs

Suggestion Encourage your child to try each of the three seats to see which is easiest.  Point out the differences between the number of pulleys and the difficulty the child had in using the different seats of the exhibit.
Concept Preschoolers will be introduced to the relationship between the number of pulleys and the difficulty of lifting themselves to the top of the rope.
Fact Children between ages 3 and 6 make great advances in gross motor skills such as running, jumping, climbing, and lifting.  Opportunities to practice these motor skills will strengthen muscles and increase coordination.

Gear Table

Suggestion Encourage your preschooler to build a combination of gears.  Ask about why he placed a specific gear in a particular place.  Try to show your child examples of where gears are used in his everyday surroundings.
Concept Children use a variety of colorful gears to see how they will fit together and move.
Fact Preschoolers are more capable of using complex problem solving methods to answer a question or complete a task.
