Ocean for Infants

Sand Table

Suggestion Hold your baby next to the table and allow him to touch the sand with his fingers to feel the texture and show him how to make hand prints. Point out the imprints that the rollers make in the sand.
Concept The infant can utilize the sense of touch while playing in the sand.

Fact During the first several months of life, touch is the most mature sensory system.

Ball Fountain

Suggestion Hold your infant up to this exhibit. Show your infant how to balance the ball on the fountain. Encourage the infant to reach and grab the ball. "Oops! See what happens when we touch the water? The ball fell! Want to see that again?"
Concept The infant can practice hand/eye coordination and enhance the sense of touch as the infant plays in the streams of water.
Fact Infants have nearly 20/20 vision by the sixth month of life. Infants, from birth, also have visual preferences and choose to spend more time looking at certain things.
