Science Education Resources for Homeschoolers
COSI is pleased to announce new workshops just for homeschool students and educators. We understand the challenges that homeschool educators face tackling science topics. COSI bridges the gap with programs that foster the personal engagement that led you to homeschool in the first place. Participants get the chance to socialize with other young scientists while exploring science careers. Best of all, there's no mess in your kitchen! To make reservations, please call 614.228.2674.
COSI also offers professional experiences for homeschool students. Youth age 12 and up are invited to join the COSI Team as volunteers. Earn a letter of recommendation, develop relationships with science educators and business personnel, and much more.

Solve a real-life COSI mystery! Someone has broken into the Gadgets Café and COSI needs your help to find the master criminal! From cracking codes to chemistry, participants use scientific and mathematical skills to solve this whodunit. Participants receive pre-visit activities to prepare them for their workshop, plus follow-up activities and a special activity to do at COSI when the workshop is complete.

Learn how design, marketing, and finance bring the best ideas to life. Inquiry into Electricity

Learn about electrical current and how it travels by creating a simple electric circuits. Explore how electricity influences our everyday lives through light bulbs, motors, and cell phones. Design and build your own scribbling machine. Come and explore the chemical and physical changes that are part of our daily lives. Investigate the states of matter and examine the differences between chemical and physical changes. Create your own secret formula to enjoy. Astronomy Workshop for Students & Parents
Single-day workshop
for ages 8-18 |
This program combines a presentation by an OSU Astonomer, a student workshop, and a separate workshop for parents. The program begins with a dynamic 60- minute presentation by an OSU astronomer who shares information about his research and how that applies to gravitational force, solar system objects (including planets), the life cycle of stars, and the tools used to explore the universe.
Following this presentation, students will work with a COSI educator to explore the topics introduced by the OSU astronomer through hands-on activities. At the same time, parents will go to their own workshop where they will receive additional science lessons that they can do at home.
Following these workshop experiences, families will be invited to explore COSI with a scavenger hunt that guides them through COSI's exhibitions that reinforce the topic.

Culinary Chemistry:
An Explosive Experience

This explosive program uses the senses to explore the chemical and physical changes that are part of cooking. Participants may get a little messy! Parents are encouraged to drop off children at COSI for this workshop.
