Basic skills must be mastered in order for students to understand the world in which they live. According to the Science Benchmarks, by the end of fifth grade students should be able to do a variety of things including:
Scientific Process Skills
1) Observing - using your senses to explore the world around you 2) Questioning - wondering about a phenomenon or event 3) Sorting - organizing objects based on characteristics 4) Comparing - describing as similar or different in structure or function 5) Measuring - comparing with a standard to determine quantity, dimension, or capacity 6) Predicting - deciding what will happen next 7) Communicating - sharing ideas through words, pictures, or actions |
