What is Videoconferencing?
With COSI’s Videoconferencing programs, you can:
If your school does not have videoconferencing technology, bring your class to COSI and participate in most programs from our Galaxy Theater. What equipment do I need for a videoconference?
You need full-motion videoconferencing equipment. This technology allows COSI and your class to see and hear each other in real-time. Common manufacturers of this equipment include Tandberg, Polycom, and PictureTel. This is not web-casting, so you need more than a camera and a computer. What are my options for methods of connecting to COSI?
COSI can accept ISDN calls (H.320 - via phone lines) from anywhere. We also can accept IP calls (H.323 - over the Internet), though the quality is not as good, and the connection is not as reliable as ISDN. Within the state of Ohio, we can connect to schools on the ATM network. A majority of our connections are made through a bridge at Ohio's Office of Information Technology (OIT) Video department. For good video quality, we strongly recommend a connection speed of 384 kbps or higher. |
