Autodesk Introduces New Software Series to Meet the Specific Needs of Civil
Engineers
New Series Provides an Easy and Affordable Upgrade Path From AutoCAD Release 14 and
Softdesk 8 Civil/Survey Bundle
Autodesk University, Las Vegas, November 27, 2001 - Autodesk, Inc. (Nasdaq:
ADSK), the world's leading design software and digital content company, today announced
from its annual user conference in Las Vegas, the Autodesk® Civil Series. The Autodesk
Civil Series is a new software bundle that gives civil engineering professionals what they
need most: a single suite of integrated civil design applications that meet their biggest
challenges including integrating applications, maintaining data integrity, and collaborating
with colleagues across the entire design process. The Autodesk Civil Series has an
extensive set of tools and capabilities to meet these challenges, enabling users to handle
the wide variety of tasks they encounter in subdivision, site, road, and sewer and drainage
design projects. The suite enables users to easily pass survey data to and from the field, as
well as easily integrate paper-based drawings and raster imagery, such as aerial images or
scanned drawings, into the broader design process.
Beginning with AutoCAD®, the world's leading digital design application, Autodesk has
spent years learning from its civil engineering customers about their particular needs and is
today the leader in the civil engineering software market. The new Autodesk Civil Series
underscores Autodesk's commitment to its civil engineering customers and represents the
next step in Autodesk's civil engineering solutions, giving users powerful, industry-specific
capabilities that fit their design processes and simplify the purchasing process.
"Autodesk clearly understands the specific needs of civil engineers and we want them to
know that we are very serious about and committed to helping with their design projects,"
said Larry Diamond, vice president of Autodesk's GIS Solutions Division. "When civil
engineers adopt the Civil Series, they will be getting years of accumulated knowledge
wrapped into a single solution that enables them to focus on delivering more professional
results more quickly, with a high degree of confidence in their data quality. In addition, the
Autodesk Civil Series helps simplify the purchase and upgrade process, enabling them to
better manage their technology investment."
Autodesk Civil Series
The Autodesk Civil Series is comprised of Autodesk® Land Desktop 3, Autodesk Civil®
Design 3, Autodesk® Survey 3, and the new Autodesk® Raster Design, which was also
announced today in a separate press release. The Autodesk Civil Series enables users to
take advantage of the power of Autodesk industry-standard formats produced in AutoCAD
as well as Autodesk® Map, which are widely used and requested by consultants and clients
of civil engineers. The suite also include comprehensive support for other industry
standards, enabling users to easily work with data created in legacy systems and focus on
design, not data integrity.
In addition to features and benefits found in the Civil Series, users can leverage Autodesk's
market strength and resources to further enhance the civil design process and maximize
their technology investments. With seamless integration to Autodesk's customer website,
Point A (www.pointa.autodesk.com), users get an integrated desktop and Internet work
environment and a personalized global access point to Autodesk services and information.
Point A enables them to collaborate with colleagues and clients, and offers exclusive access
to up-to-date industry information, personalized newsletters, tips, tutorials and online
training. For more information on the Autodesk Civil Series, visit

advancements to Autodesk's civil design solutions. Vastly improved productivity tools
shorten project time and increase quality, enable users to provide new services to clients,
and expand the scope of projects they can take on. New collaboration and workflow
capabilities help users work much more effectively with colleagues and clients, use Internet
technologies, and streamline the entire design process. For users upgrading from Release
14 and S8, they get an easy, single-step upgrade process attractive upgrade price through
January 15, 2002.
