Autodesk University 2001 & Autodesk's GIS User Conference
November 27 through November 30, 2001 at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada

Day 1 - Overview of Tuesday's presentations, Autodesk's GIS User Conference

Autodesk Field Survey - Your Total Surveying Solution

Presented by: Felicia Provencal, Hawaii Design Modeling

Land surveyors and mapping professionals have traditionally faced many challenges in finding stand-alone survey software with all the features to go from field to finish. Autodesk Field Survey combines the features and benefits of high-end survey software into an affordable, stand-alone survey application enabling them to manage survey jobs from the earliest field measurements and calculations to review and all the way through to final presentation. Attendees of this class learned about Autodesk Field Survey's basic environment, were given a tutorial on Autodesk Field Survey's features and how to put them to use.

Topics covered include downloading information from a data collector, creating base maps, performing map check calculations, generating profile information, performing volume calculations, acquiring and adjusting survey. Attendees also learned about how to use Autodesk Field Survey to create surfaces, contours, calculate volumes and profiles as well as working with lot data, deeds, areas, and legal descriptions.

How to Create Custom Applications Using Autodesk MapGuide

Presented by: Mike Schlosser, Kanotech Information Systems

For organizations with large amounts of spatial data, distributing that data beyond the source is essential to improving operational productivity and unlocking its value. Autodesk MapGuide's powerful, easy-to-implement client/server capabilities assembles spatial and attribute data from multiple sources and delivers it in real time where it is needed via the Web to thousands of simultaneous users inside or outside the customer's organization.

This session gave attendees the information needed to harness the power of Autodesk MapGuide for their specific needs. Beginning with a five-step approach for quickly developing and deploying customized MapGuide applications, users heard real-life examples of successful deployments using Autodesk MapGuide and explored its rich set of development tools. The presentation also covered the Autodesk MapGuide API, ColdFusion, HTML, JavaScript and a variety of MapGuide related application development techniques, tips and tricks that encompass data loading, map authoring, Web page design, dynamic reports, and more.

Autodesk OnSite: Enabling You Mobile Field Force

Presented by: Peter Southwood, Autodesk

More often than not, field-based data is out of date or insufficient. When this occurs, data becomes disconnected from the rest of the enterprise and decisions are made without the latest information, sometimes with disastrous results. Having the right mobile solution is essential. In this session, Southwood showed the audience how to keep their field workers connected to the latest, most definitive digital design and mapping information using Autodesk OnSite. Southwood also demonstrated how to maximize workflow efficiency with Autodesk OnSite, highlighting the portability of data, and the various features of OnSite including markup.
