Vancouver, British Columbia - June 29, 2001 — IDELIX Software Inc., makers of the revolutionary software known as Pliable Display Technology, announced today PliableGIS for ArcView, an extension to ESRI’s latest version of their popular desktop geographic information system (GIS) and mapping software. The official product launch will take place at the ESRI International User Conference at the San Diego Convention Center from July 9-13, 2001 (Booth No. 1432).

PliableGIS for ArcView is a new extension that enables users to search, analyze and interpret geographic information in a more intuitive way. ArcView 8.1 users can now extend their existing zoom capabilities and benefit from increased productivity and workflow efficiency. The unique PliableGIS lens technology provides an innovative solution to the “screen real estate” challenges encountered when trying to present large amounts of information on a limited size display.

With PliableGIS, end-users are now able to view “detail” within a region of interest without losing a view of the surrounding context”. In addition to “detail-in-context” viewing, PliableGIS for ArcView also supports ESRI Visible Scale Ranges, allowing users to change their levels of magnification and automatically view underlying layers of data within the lens. With the PliableGIS for ArcView extension, users gain access to a powerful new data exploration tool designed by experts in the field of information visualization to greatly enhance viewing functionality and improve overall use of geographic information.

“PliableGIS for ArcView has the potential to reshape the way in which ArcView 8.1 users access, analyze and value geographic information. PliableGIS provides productivity benefits to users in each of the twenty-six vertical markets supported by ESRI,” says Stuart Bourhill, President and COO. “PliableGIS is an extremely valuable addition to ArcView 8.1 with an intuitive user interface that features an easy-to-use lens sizing and magnification control.”

"IDELIX is a company that is representative of the many strong ESRI Canada business partners that demonstrate technological innovation and development in support of product suite from ESRI," says Myron Doherty, Pacific Region Manager, ESRI Canada.

PliableGIS for ArcView features include:

  • Variety of lenses to suit your data viewing needs
  • Easy-to-use click and drag interface with lens sizing and magnification control
  • Real-time manipulation of the lens position, shape and magnification
  • Enhanced zoom, pan, and inspection capability
  • Configurable lens – base region, focus region, and lens slope
  • Viewing and rendering support for multi-layer vector, raster and mixed map data
  • Advanced capabilities to adjust your entire viewing area to match:
  • The scale of the focal region
  • The contents of the focal region
  • Full support of ESRI Visible Scale Ranges and the drawing of layers based on the level of magnification

ESRI’s ArcView 8.1 is the new premier solution for desktop GIS analysis and map presentation. It includes tools and data you can use immediately to visualize and analyze geographic information. The results of these analyses can be displayed as intelligent, dynamic maps that let you present information more clearly than in other formats such as tables or charts.
