Editor's Notes From The Floor
Monday, March 27, 2000

Stepping back a few days to February 23rd Colorado Governor Bill Owens declared March 26-29 to be "GITA Week". This proclamation recognizes GITA's long standing commitment to the geospatial Information technology industry by providing quality, unbiased education on the technology's use and benefits.

This year the 23rd Annual GITA Conference (formerly know as AM/FM International) is boasting regular attendance well over 3000 visitors per day... and features 22 seminars, 80 plenary sessions, 3 panels, and some 140 exhibitors in the exposition.

Looking around the GITA exposition, it becomes more clear to us that GIS is definitely going mobile. All one has to do is walk around the exhibition floor to see displays by such vendors as Autodesk (Project Maui) ESRI (ArcPad), Tadpole - Cartesia (Enterprise Field Server -EFS), 3Di, LLC, Datria Systems, iMedion, MapFrame Corp., MDSI, Telcordia, and a number of others.

All are showcasing innovations that they have developed to enable GIS users to take their job to the field and manage their information systems more effectively. We've already met with a number of representatives from these companies, and look forward to bringing you detailed information on their mobile and field computing solutions.

Monday, March 27 kicked off for us at 8:30 AM with the annual press conference. This is an exclusive opportunity for the media to get the heads up directly from corporate executives and listen (often for the first time) to exciting product and corporate announcements. A number of companies used this as a forum to unveil some exciting industry news. Here's a run down of what was announced today. Please note, over the next week, all of these releases will be posted here at SpatialNews.
