Intergraph Continues its Leadership in the GIS Worldwide Market Latest Daratech report illustrates company's strong market position in key industries
HUNTSVILLE, Ala., March 27, 2000 - Intergraph Corporation continues its leadership in the GIS worldwide market according to the latest Daratech, Inc. (Cambridge, Mass.) market analysis. Intergraph's market position underscores its leadership as a worldwide provider of technical solutions and systems integration. Daratech estimates that total GIS core-business revenues - including software, hardware, and services - reached $1.5 billion in 1999, a 10.6 percent growth over 1998. According to the report, Intergraph leads worldwide with a 38 percent market revenue share. GIS industry software revenues rose a robust 12.8 percent to more than $845 million. Intergraph accounted for 28.3 percent of total industry software revenues.

Daratech figures show the company commands the No.1 or No. 2 market revenue share position in the key industries it serves - utilities, communications, government, and transportation. Intergraph's rich geospatial heritage and technology are at the core of the products and solutions offered by its vertical businesses that target these industries. A summary of the company's key industries follows:

Utilities - Intergraph has provided automated mapping/facilities management/GIS (AM/FM/GIS) solutions to electric, gas, pipeline, and water companies for more than 20 years. Daratech's market analysis supports Intergraph's long-established leadership role in utilities with a 36 percent software market revenue share - more than the second- and third-ranked vendors combined. Intergraph also accounted for a 37 percent software, hardware, and services market revenue share.

Communications - Intergraph leads the telecommunications industry segment, which it defined and created with the industry's first AM/FM/GIS designed for a communications company. Daratech's market analysis supports the company's leadership role with a 34 percent software market revenue share - more than the second- and third-ranked vendors combined. Intergraph also accounted for a 44 percent software, hardware, and services market revenue share.

Government - Intergraph has a rich history in serving national, state, and local governments with enterprisewide GIS implementations, including public safety and industry-specific solutions. Daratech's market analysis reports that Intergraph accounted for a 26 percent software market revenue share and a 36 percent software, hardware, and services market revenue share, making Intergraph one of the top worldwide performers in this industry segment.

Transportation - Intergraph is a long-established leader in the transportation industry providing road and rail solutions worldwide. Daratech's market analysis reports that Intergraph accounted for a 36 percent software market revenue share and a 49 percent software, hardware, and services market revenue share, making Intergraph one of the top worldwide performers in this industry segment.

Jim Taylor, CEO of Intergraph Corporation commented, "Daratech's latest market report illustrates that our focused industry initiatives, announced last year, are solid. Our talented people, industry-proven technology, and ability to deliver complete solutions provide the competitive edge our valued customers count on from Intergraph. Moreover, our vertical businesses are empowered to respond to market changes and make the business decisions necessary to compete and grow in the marketplace."

Bruce Jenkins, vice president of Daratech, Inc. said, "With its compelling vertical business strategy, Intergraph's success is evident in its strong worldwide market presence. In the key industries it serves, customers value Intergraph's ability to offer complete solutions to meet their business needs. We expect continued growth for the company in 2000."

Setting the Pace Worldwide

In 1999, Intergraph transformed geospatial product offerings for the communications and utilities industries to create a more open and enabling enterprise-focused IT environment. Intergraph continues to demonstrate leadership with a major shift from isolated AM/FM/GIS to a geospatially-enabled enterprise through the company's pre-integrated geospatial resource management (GRM) solutions. GRM integrates a full range of asset management and decision support tools into a truly blended, enterprise-focused IT environment.

Six years ago, Intergraph championed the move of GIS to Microsoft Windows NT by engineering a brand-new generation of GIS solutions, based on GeoMedia(R) technology. This GeoMedia technology now provides the foundation for the company's full slate of geospatial offerings. By Daratech's estimates, PC-based GIS software accounted for 69 percent of total industry software revenue. Today, Intergraph's PC-based GIS solutions lead this market segment with 36 percent of the market.

Market revenue share is based on total revenues that are reported by software vendors and analyzed by Daratech. The results are published in the firm's new report on the GIS industry titled Geographic Information Systems Markets and Opportunities 2000.
