Infant Workshops

For children ages 6-17 months.

Designed for infants and their favorite adult to explore their environment through hands-on sensory activities that help develop social, cognitive, and motor skills and allow for creative expression. COSI’s Infant Workshops meet once for one hour inside little kidspace® on COSI’s Level 2 and include a brief excursion to another part of COSI.

Interactive Videoconferencing

Science Delivered at the Speed of Light. Videoconferencing connects your students with scientists, doctors, and experts in their fields with a LIVE interactive two-way experience with your school or from COSI.

Intermediate Robotics

In Depth: Autopsy

Follow an actual recorded human autopsy from start to finish with guidance from a real forensic pathologist to solve the case for the cause of death.

In Depth: Autopsy

Follow a videotape of an actual autopsy accompanied by live narration by a forensic pathologist. Participants must work through the "case" and solve for cause of death.

It's Simply Chemistry

Join our COSI Detective and use chemistry to help solve a mystery. Create endothermic and exothermic reactions, make super slime to take home, experience a chemical reaction that produces light without heat, and more.

Investigating Energy

With the help of Dr. Kilowatt, learn about creating energy with both renewable and non-renewable resources. Plus test the power of wind, learn about energy conservation, and explore how sound waves can locate underground energy sources.

Intermediate LEGO® Robotics

Gain basic programming skills using the LEGO® MINDSTORMS Robotics system.

Integrating Science & Language Arts for Grades 4-8

Embed reading and writing in your science lessons with children's literature that reinforces science concepts. Review science-related children's literature and media while participating in inquiry based, hands-on activities that can be replicated in your classroom.June 25-26, 2013, 8am-4pm at COSI in Columbus

Obtain a semester credit through Ohio Dominican University or Ashland University with this workshop for an additional $175 fee; credit sign-up information will be available at the workshop.

Inquiry into Science, Literature and Math

Embed reading, writing, and math within your science lessons with children's literature that reinforces science concepts. You will review a number of science-related children's literature selections and media while participating in inquiry based, hands-on activities that can be easily replicated in your classroom.

Infusing Equity with the SciGirls Seven

The Emmy Award-winning PBS Kids television series, SciGirls, features groups of middle school girls modeling authentic approaches to inquiry-based science and engineering projects. Our television series, website, and outreach initiatives emphasize current research on strategies, the SciGirls Seven, proven to increase girls’ engagement in STEM. This workshop will demonstrate these strategies and encourage all in attendance to share their own experiences and discuss best practices. Participants will receive a SciGirls Seven pocket postcard and gain awareness of resources for girls, parents, and educators.
