  • ERDAS
  • ERDAS.com Takes On A New Look

Several weeks ago ERDAS launched a completely revamped website at www.ERDAS.com

(June 11, 2001) In order to keep online customers on their toes, web managers are often required to redesign websites, sometimes as often as twice a year. If you've visited ERDAS.com lately you've likely noticed a new look. On April 29 the company officially unveiled a re-vamped website complete with industry targeted solutions, a personalized area dubbed "ERDAS Central", and of course, an updated product catalog.

    ERDAS.com Splash Page

ERDAS Central requires user registration in order to facilitate targeted, premium content. Users will have access to online training via the ERDAS TutorOnline (try the Intro to Remote Sensing, orthorectification, and the IMAGINE Viewer), free software downloads (including Viewfinder and the now free for the taking... Mapsheets Express, product literature and "walk-throughs", and media collateral.

TutorOnline is a service designed to provide free web-based training on various topics related to ERDAS software products and geographic imaging. According to ERDAS reps. "TutorOnline courses complement classes offered at ERDAS Education Centers and through Education Direct, the company's customized course scheme." Initially, the courses will introduce geographic imaging concepts to those new to the technology and will provide ERDAS clients with a qucik and efficient way to learn specific parts of a software program. Support materials allow for spatial models, sample imagery, and vector data to be downloaded by users.

According to ERDAS, in the coming months users will have access to an integrated CRM system providing focused news, customer generated software key codes, integrated product support, and the ability to interract and exchange ideas with fellow ERDAS product users.

Other key nodes found at the new website include employment opportunities, detailed software/product information (complete with specifications, FAQ, gallery, and requirements), archived press announcements, and an online store.

The site is a nice change of pace and a much needed improvement for ERDAS. The only things I would recommend would be to remove the annoying sound clips that greets visitors from the home page (I've yet to see an effective use of this), and to bring the store under the ERDAS.com domain - why the Yahoo! store? Otherwise... thumbs up on a nice redesign! Oh yeah... visitors to the website have a chance to win some cool prizes. The company will be giving away a Compaq iPaq PocketPC and an HP computer!
