GeonetCom: An Online Seminar Series on Real-World GIS
Educational Seminars Geared to Telco, Utilities, and Government IT
and GIS Professionals
San Rafael, California, October 25, 1999—Autodesk, Directions
Magazine, GeoPlace.com, GeoCommunity, PlaceWare, URISA, and
USGS today announced GeonetCom, a no-charge educational online
seminar series targeting IT and GIS professionals within the
telecommunications and utilities industries as well as local government.
The 12-part series features topics ranging from implementing
enterprisewide GIS, to creating virtual map rooms and implementing
Web-based vehicle tracking. All sessions will be delivered over the Web
using PlaceWare (www.placeware.com) technology and will focus on
real-world case studies of GIS implementations, with particular emphasis
on leveraging existing investments for greater return on investment on
future GIS projects. A Web browser and phone are all that is needed to
participate. Registration for GeonetCom begins today, October 25, at
www.geonetcom.com. A full seminar schedule is also available at this
site. Registrants will receive an e-mail newsletter and be eligible to win a
3COM PalmPilot if they register before November 5.*
"The purpose of GeonetCom is to provide a forum for GIS and IT
professionals to interact and share information about their
implementations in an educational, noncommercial environment," said
Joe Astroth, Ph.D., executive vice president, Autodesk® GIS Solutions
Division. "This kind of problem-solving, real-world discussion provides
valuable information for making decisions and implementing GIS
solutions."
The 12 unique online seminars will take place on Tuesdays and
Thursdays, November 9 through March 2, 2000. A keynote session on
the changing face of GIS and the impact of the Internet will kick off the
series. The remaining seminars will present case studies from
organizations such as the City of Las Vegas, North East Optic Network,
Georgia Power, Time Warner, Sigba S.A., Pima County, Dolphin
Technologies, and Denver Water.
