RTS Networks Releases Route WAP: An Interactive Routing and Mapping Solution For Wireless Technologies
Wednesday, March 1, 2000 - New Orleans, Louisiana. RTS Networks began demonstrating Route WAP,
a wireless solution that serves interactive routing and directions to end
users using WAP enabled devices. Based on RTS Networks existing Outlook
Bridge for WAP, ESRI's Route Map IMS technology, and Microsoft Exchange
Server, Route WAP is designed to solve the needs of users that need access
to directions and contact information when access to a traditional
computing device like a desktop computer is not practical. Route WAP is an
ideal solution for sales staff, customer support personnel, and delivery
persons that need access to customer locations while in vehicles and
traveling in the field.
Charlie Macgruder, product manager for ESRI's Route Map IMS product,
commented on Route WAP as a significant implementation for maps and
geographic information systems technology. "By combining our ESRI routing
and mapping capabilities so that it can be easily accessed via phone, RTS
Networks is addressing the real world problems faced by consumers and
business people trying to find easier ways to deal with their ever
increasing complex lives. We are excited to have RTS Networks as a business
partner and enjoy working with them as they advance GIS technology to
digital phones and other technologies."
Route WAP provides easy to use features that let users select contact and
address information from an intuitive menu system and then generates turn
by turn driving directions to a destination point which is then displayed
on a WAP device. Because Route WAP is integrated into RTS Networks Outlook
Bridge users can select from previously defined contact information that is
stored on a Microsoft Exchange Server simplifying the data entry process,
often a challenge for WAP enabled applications.
Route WAP is ideal for delivery and sales staff that spend time traveling
and visiting numerous customer sites. Because Route WAP taps into a core
business application, Microsoft Outlook, used by thousands of medium to
large scale business, the installation of this tool for use will require
little customization.
