Xybernaut - wearable computing!
I recently had the pleasure of bumping into Steve Mizera, Senior Systems Engineer at Xybernaut Corp. We met at a conference and he was wearing of all things... a computer! Naturally I was intrigued so I decided to have a chat with him (Steve is pictured below).

As it turns out he was wearing the Xybernaut Mobile Assistant IV - a featherweight computer with all the functionality and connectivity of a fully-functioned networked desktop PC. It works even where laptops or palmtops cannot.

The unit is available with a touch screen flat panel color display, head mounted color display with hands-free voice recognition and activation, the full-function MA IV makes it possible for workers to access data, file reports, send e-mail and connect with the Internet virtually anywhere.

The MA IV consists of:

  • Fully functioning Pentium MMX CPU
  • Full color Flat Panel Display
  • XyberView Head Mounted Display (with optional Xybercam™ video camera)
  • Advanced Power System
  • Accessories including 11 inch Mini desktop, 2-hand Keyboard, Wrist-Worn Keyboard, Vest complete with cable sleeves and holsters for the CPU and Special belt to hold the CPU and Powerpack
  • Certified Peripherals including fax/modem card, video camera, bar code scanner, gps scanner, video card, lan card, cell phone, CD-ROM

With the MA IV, users can perform a number of tasks in the field including accessing data files, file reports, send email, connect to the internet and virtually anything else you would normally do from your desk... Very cool!
