ArcView Tip - How do I increase the number of Decimal Places Used and Displayed in the Table of Contents?
Problem:Classifying data and data display rounds data to three decimal places.

Solution: Here's how to change the precision:

  • Copy the following script into a new script window

    'Get the Active View
    theView = av.GetActiveDoc
    'Change this to set the Precision you want
    'ArcView will use 10 to the power of thePrecision
    'to determine the number of significant digits
    thePrecision = -3
    'Get the Active Theme
    theTheme = theView.GetActiveThemes.Get(0)
    'Get the Legend to be modified
    theLegend = theTheme.getLegend
    'Set the precision of the legend
    theLegend.SetPrecision(thePrecision)

  • Compile the script by pressing the "checkmark" in the toolbar or selecting the "Compile" option from the "Script" menu.
  • Make your view the active window.
  • Select a theme you want to modify the precision of.
  • Make your script window active and run the script.
  • Make your view active again to refresh the display.

AutoCAD Tip - Troubles Connecting Your Digitizing Tablet
Here's the scenario. You've recently installed AutoCAD and now you can't get the software to recognize that #$@^#$ digitizing tablet! You might save yourself a bit of time by checking out the Virtual Tablet. This is a generic driver written by Digitizer Technology Company virtual software. They have been supplying this driver for several years and are currently on version 4.01. The driver will allow you to get your digitizer set up and running quickly. It also has some special features for solving problems with "timing issues" on faster systems. For information on this product contact Digitizer Technology Company 16541 Redmond Way, Suite 195C, Redmond, WA 98052 US, Tel: +1 (206) 868-3246, Fax: +1 (206) 885-7704. They have shareware and retail versions available. Note, I've used the V.T. in the past and it was very useful!
