GIS Canada Eh!
ResSources http://gkn.nrcan.gc.ca , a GSC innitiative, was developed in 1998 to better integrate its many Internet activities
and contribute to a larger national initiative. The goal of ResSources GSC is to provide Internet access to interoperable,
multi-dimensional geoscience information in a client-focused manner through a network
of linked sources.

Front Page of ResSources Website
The project has funded several demonstration projects in order to identify a broad range of methods of delivering
geoscience information over the Internet.
One such project, CordLink
http://132.156.108.208/Cordlink1/default.htm is a window on Cordilleran Geology. The site provides users with access to reports,
documents, maps, data, and downloads. The image below shows the screen users are presented in the data downloads section.

Window on Cordilleran Geology
Users have an option of selecting data from the BCGS (Pronvincial) or GSC (Federal) holdings.
As a test, we selected GSC data of the Tectonic Assemblage Map of the Canadian Cordillera (Wheeler and
McFeely, 1991; GSC Map 1712A). Options for data format include E00, SHP, MIF. or DXF, in either geographic or Lambert Conformal Projection. We downloaded a 5 MB SHP file (displayed in image below)

The vast collection of documents and research material available at the website are very neatly organized and categorized by subjects including bedrock geology, economic geology,
geochemistry, and a number of other topics.

Other Projects featured at ResSources:
Urban Geology Studies - This site was developed as part of the ResSources GSC project, a Geological Survey of Canada initiative, that allows
you to view and query information on the Urban Geology of the National Capital Region
Mirage - a digital image library of GSC maps.
C-Margin - Canadian MARine Geoscience Information Network
Canadian Geophysical Atlas Online
Earthnet - A virtual Resource Center for Earth Science Educators.
Interactive Map Query System - This site was developed as part of the ResSources GSC project, a Geological Survey of Canada initiative, that allows you
to search for scientific publications released by Provincial and Federal Geological Surveys. Your queries will be based on
the National Topographical System (NTS) at a scale of 250K. The databases available for you to search on this site include regional till geochemistry surveys, surficial geology maps,
mineral deposits and lake and stream sediment geochemical surveys. On this site, you will get familiarized with the MapCafé Applet developed by ESRI.

The projects were developed independently by a number of project
teams across Canada, each exploring key scientific, technical, policy and outreach
issues. The projects provide access to GSC metadata and data, and in some cases,
that of its partners. All of the projects listed above are available at the ResSources website http://gkn.nrcan.gc.ca
There is a vast amount of information available from this site and we've only touched on the surface.
The user interface is very impressive and easily navigated. Maps are quick to draw and are conveniently served
up using Autodesk's Mapguide Internet map server. Next time you've got a spare half an hour or so I recommend you
spend some time navigating around the site and get ready to be wowed!
