SPATIAL NEWS - Recent News from the GIS world

GeoComm Acquires Wireless Developer Network
GeoComm International Corporation (GeoComm) has recently acquired the Wireless Developer Network(TM) (www.wirelessdevnet.com), a portal site for wireless software developers.

AutoCAD 2000 Goes Online - AutoCAD has plans to offer a way to run their software on the Web. This will be accomplished by running AutoCAD from a server located on the Internet. Users will be required to install about 2MB of software on their local machine. You will be able to run AutoCAD from any Windows computer located anywhere you can connect to the Internet. The beta version will have several limitations:

  • Plotting is limited to DWF output.
  • The 3dCOrbit command is disabled.
  • Cannot alter the size of the pickbox and aperture box.
  • Can use only the ObjectARX apps that ship with AutoCAD 2000.
  • Digitizers, profiles, VLISP, and VBA are not supported.
  • Only the default Heidi 3D graphics are supported.

    Floating and Network Licenses from Blue Marble Geographics A "floating license" allows you to easily transfer Geographic Calculator, Geographic Transformer, Geographic Tracker, or Geographic Translator licenses between computers. You can have the product installed on every computer in your office, with a fully enabled "licensed" installation for each floating license you have purchased.
