1999 STATISTICAL ABSTRACT OF THE UNITED STATES RELEASED
From 1900 to 1998, the new Abstract reports, the country's resident population grew from 76 million to 270 million; the currently divorced population jumped from less than 200,000 to 19.4 million; married women in the workforce rose from less than 800,000 to 33.9 million; gasoline- fueled vehicles climbed from 8,000 to 208 million (1997); and nitrogen dioxide emissions soared from 2.6 million tons to 23.6 million tons (1997).

CANADA AND URUGUAY SIGN AGREEMENT TO COOPERATE ON GEOSCIENCE INITIATIVES
Canada and Uruguay will cooperate in gathering and analyzing the geoscientific information needed to establish the outer limit of Uruguay's marine jurisdiction. Where appropriate, this information will serve other purposes, such as safety of navigation and environmental studies. Through this agreement, Canadian marine geoscience businesses will provide products and services that can support sustainable economic growth in Uruguay's marine sector.

U.S. FISH AND WILDLIFE SERVICE AWARDS $12 MILLION FOR WETLAND RESTORATION PROJECTS
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will contribute $12 million to 25 wetlands conservation and restoration projects over the coming year through its National Coastal Wetlands Conservation Grant program. Service Director Jamie Rappaport Clark announced the grants, which will be supplemented with more than $10 million in funding from state agencies and private organizations

ERDAS Releases New IMAGINE IFSAR DEM Module
ERDAS, Inc., announces the release of IMAGINE IFSAR DEM, the fourth radar processing module in the IMAGINE Radar Mapping Suite. IMAGINE IFSAR DEM is wizard-based, terrain extraction software that uses interferometric processing techniques to create high-resolution digital elevation models (DEMs) from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery.
