The New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG) has
expanded its computer mapping service by providing customized,
computer-generated maps live to non-profit clients in New York
and to the world through its new mapping website.

The site, launched by NYPIRG's Community Mapping Assistance
Project(CMAP), gives non-profit organizations the ability to see
their data on maps served over the Internet.  The website is
available to the general public, but the mapping service is
targeted toward a specific market: non-profit institutions
without access to geographic information systems (GIS).  Through
CMAP and its website, these groups will be able to employ GIS
technology to enhance their non-profit mission - by determining
what social services are near their clients, seeing what
legislative districts their members are located in, examining
what demographic patterns match their service areas, or using
a wide selection of other spatial analysis techniques.

CMAP's website can be accessed at http://www.cmap.nypirg.org, or by

GISC - Berkeley

I have recently attended the newly opened GISC, Geographic
Information Science Center, on Berkeley Campus.  Having taken a
4 day short course on GIS Management I must say I was very
pleased.  The course covered topics such as Metadata,
georectification of images, and where to access high quality
public data on the internet.  Compared to many of the other
learning environments it was exceptional.  The teacher to
student ratio was terrific.

I just wanted to get the word out about the Center and its
great benefit in providing hands-on experience with the latest
applications.
