Science of the Season

(Columbus) – Science and the holidays come alive at COSI this season with a celebration unlike anything you’ll find at the local shopping center or lights display. Get deep into the science of the season while playing with classic toys, building toys, games and trains. The holiday season officially kicks off at COSI with a one-day holiday event, “Joys of Toys Special Event: Classic Toys” on November 26. Then, for three weekends in December, COSI offers a chance to play like a kid during the “Joys of Toys” toy-themed weekend events where you can explore:

Holiday – Joys of Toys Special Event: Classic Toys

November 26, 2011, 10am – 5pm

Celebrate the holidays with classic and timeless toys that will test your skills! Play with Yo-Yos, top spinners, hula hoops, and more. Plus, see fascinating demonstrations by Yo-Yo Artist Dr. Zeemo and Top Spinning Champion Mike Hout.

Holiday – Joys of Toys Special Event: Building Toys

December 3, 2011, 10am – 5pm
December 4, 2011, Noon – 6pm

Bring your family to explore building toys of all kinds. Using giant LEGO ® bricks, LINCOLN LOGS™, and everything in between, discover your “inner architect.” Check out a working LEGO ® train display, a children’s LEGO play area courtesy of the Central Ohio LEGO Train Club, and meet area high school LEGO Mindstorms Robotics Teams.

Holiday – Joys of Toys Special Event: Games

December 10, 2011, 10am – 5pm
December 11, 2011, Noon – 6pm

It's a weekend all about classic, ageless, and unique games! We’ll have a GAMA Family Game Room where you can play games of all kinds, meet Santa Claus, enjoy holiday treats, and even leave with a new game from under Santa's tree!

Holiday – Joys of Toys Special Event: Trains

December 17 – 23, 2011 Open COSI operating hours Saturday, December 17, 2011 - Thursday, December 22. Closes at 3pm on Friday, December 23.

Put on your railroad engineer's cap and check out a huge room full of model railroad layouts from the Central Ohio S Gaugers, the Central Ohio O-Scale Engineers. The Columbus Garden Railway Society will be here through December 21. There will be trains of all sizes and shapes - something for every train enthusiast! Plus, wooden trains and tracks for little engineers to explore.

At COSI you can get deep into the science of the season through the Holiday Lights Live Show, a one-of-a-kind science show, and on select dates you can add the Holiday Lights You Try It! Family Workshop for just $5.

COSI is open for seven day operations December 19, 2011 – January 1, 2012. COSI is closed December 24-25, 2011.
