New exhibit helps us deal with our fears
A new phobia has been discovered. Millions of people are now suffering from "no mobile phobia" which has been given the name nomophobia, according to a new study out of the UK. There are hundreds of phobias out there and a new exhibit at COSI tries to help people understand what causes these fears and anxiety. Goosebumps: The Science of Fear exhibit includes immersive environments and full-body, interactive experiences that allow visitors to test their own fears and rate their physiological responses. Leading scientists and their current research on the neurobiology, physiology and psychology of fear are also featured throughout the exhibit. Exhibit runs through May 4, 2008 and is included with COSI admission.
Events & Photo Opportunities
Nano Day at COSI, 10am-3pm April 2, 2008
Researchers from The Ohio State University and COSI's floor faculty join forces to present the science of nanotechnology - the science of the very small. Nanotechnology is changing the way we live, work, and play. Nanoparticles are smaller than a nanometer - less than a billionth of a meter across! By comparison, a human hair is about 80,000 nanometers wide!
What can you do with such tiny stuff? Come to COSI to find out! Experience the world's hardest metals. Learn how to make medicine atom by atom. Explore a liquid that seems to "come to life" when near an ordinary magnet. Ask researchers about cutting-edge issues in nanotechology and hear their visions for the future
Pinwheel Planting Day at COSI, 12pm-2pm April 19, 2008
Join the Miracle-Gro Capital Scholars @ COSI program and Prevent Child Abuse Ohio in planting "Pinwheels for Prevention"! Come plant a pinwheel on COSI's front lawn, get a family photo, and participate in a “Healthy Family, Healthy Planet” activity in COSI’s atrium! Over 3,000 pinwheels will be planted. This number represents half of the reported cases of child abuse and neglect in Franklin County, Ohio.
Admission is as follows: $12.50 for adults, $7.50 for youth (2 - 12 years old), $10.50 for senior citizens and free to children under 24 months and COSI Members. For more information, and current hours of operation visit cosi.org or call 614.228.COSI.
