Become a CSI Investigator and Crack the Case at COSI

    CSI: The Experience Now Open

(Columbus)-May 24, 2008 - You now have the chance to step behind the yellow caution tape and become a real-life sleuth for a day, in the newest traveling exhibit CSI: The Experience, now open at COSI. Based on the popular CBS television show, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, visitors will take on the role of forensic scientists as they learn real investigative techniques and use ground-breaking technology used to solve crimes. The exhibit runs through September 1, 2008.

A car crashes through a living room in a house leaving one person dead, a corpse is found in an ally behind a Las Vegas motel, and a skeleton is discovered by a hiker in an unmarked grave deep in the desert. These are the three crime scenes featured in CSI: The Experience. Similar to crime scenes found on the television show, yet exclusive to the exhibit, visitors will be challenged and delightfully surprised as they learn just what it takes to solve a crime.

You will begin the investigation with an introductory video that includes cast members from the television show along with their real-life forensic science counterparts. As new investigators on the CSI team, museum-goers uncover evidence and learn how real-life investigators fit the pieces of the puzzle together. In recreated, state-of-the-art crime labs, you can compare bullet casings to those in a database and learn how to match a victim’s DNA to a sample recovered at the scene. Finally, you can pay a visit to the workspace of CSI’s quirky hero, Gil Gissom, where you go over the case and discover if your hypotheses were correct.

CSI: The Experience was developed by the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History for the Science Museum Exhibit Collaborative (SMEC), with support form CBS Consumer Products, the cast and crew of the television show, the American Academy of Forensic Science, and the National Science Foundation. Presented locally by Chemical Abstracts. Local media support by WBNS 10TV and The Columbus Dispatch, and promotional support from PEPSI.
