Fly to the Moon at COSI
New animated 3D movie gives a space adventure of the third kind
Columbus (August 1st, 2008) -- Even though flying to the moon is no longer a distant dream for the masses of people as it was in 1969, it is still an adventure. As Nat, the lead character in the new 3D movie Fly Me to the Moon said, “if it ain't an adventure, ain't worth doin'.” Fly Me to the Moon is an animated film created exclusively for the 3D experience, and it is coming to COSI’s 7-story Extreme Screen August 22 through March 1, 2009.
Fly Me to the Moon is about three adventuresome tween aged flies who stow away and ultimately save the Apollo 11 mission to the moon. The film reintroduces a new generation to space exploration and the historic moment when the whole world was united in awe. A G-rated animated family film, the story is voiced by talents Kelly Ripa, Christopher Lloyd, Nicollette Sheridan, Tim Curry, and live action/cameo by real life Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin.
Film makers searched for two years before they found the perfect script to create their 3D movie. “When I read Domonic Paris’ script Fly Me to the Moon, I knew it was perfect for us in terms of both content and form,” said film director Ben Stassen. “It is the story of three tween age flies hitching a ride on the Apollo 11 mission to the Moon. Space lends itself really well to 3D (lots of floating objects) and I wanted to create a film with stylized characters evolving in photo realistic environments.”
COSI's 7-story Extreme Screen is a perfect venue for a film like Fly Me to the Moon. The screen is 83 feet wide and 7 stories tall, which gives an image shaped like that of a television, only much larger and more detailed. The light bulb used to power the digital film projector is a 12,000 watt xenon arc lamp. This all comes together for an out of this world trip to the moon.
The movie runs through March 1st, 2009, and Extreme Screen tickets cost $6.00 with the purchase of exhibit admission or $7.50 for a single movie ticket.
