Mega Machines Dig in at COSI

From bulldozers to backhoes, get behind the wheel of these massive machines to discover just how these construction monsters work. In its 8th year, The Science of Big Machines invites you to explore the science and technology of machines that build roads and buildings by allowing you to try it first hand.

More than fifteen pieces of massive construction equipment roll into COSI on Saturday, June 13, 2009. New this year: a 27,000 pound excavator bucket big enough to hold a car, and see for yourself how using a computer simulator compares to a real excavator. There will also be bulldozers, a crane, concrete mixer and even dump trucks! Also new this year is a 648 skidder with a grapple used for transporting logs. The exhibit will be available on English Plaza and Washington Blvd. It's BIG fun for the whole family!

Children receive their own hard hat to wear as they climb into the drivers seat of a mini-excavator to dig and move sand. You can also learn how to operate an all-terrain forklift. Construction workers from the Ohio Contractors Association and Operating Engineers Apprenticeship will be on hand to help kids of all ages see firsthand how big jobs get done. Construction workers will also perform crane demonstrations throughout the exhibit run.

On June 16 watch a mini-excavator in action as COSI builds a new rain garden to help reduce pollution from storm water runoff.

The Science of Big Machines will be on display at COSI through Sunday, June 21 and is open during normal COSI hours: Monday through Saturday, 10:00am to 5:00pm, and Sunday, 12:00pm to 6:00pm. Admission to this exhibit is included with regular COSI admission.

Created and made possible by the Ohio Contractors Association and Operating Engineers Apprenticeship & Training. Presented by Bob Evans.
