August 7, 2006 - View Photos! COSI did a promotional partnership with the Carnegie Library in Washington Court House, Ohio. Many children came together to produce sculptures of TIE Fighters and an R2-D2 for public display at the library. The kids were excited and a big thanks goes out to the Carnegie Library for their help and support of COSI's mission.
The Star Wars exhibit truly inspires young generations and creates a genuine interest in science and technology. Be sure to experience the exhibit at COSI until September 4, 2006... it's going to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry next.

June 29, 2006 - Tips for a Great Visit The summer is flying by! July 4th is only a few days away, and Columbus is preparing for the Red, White, & Boom annual fireworks show. This means that COSI is closed on July 3rd & 4th this year. The fireworks are launched in COSI's backyard near the Scioto River, so we're in the "danger zone."
We've compiled a few helpful tips to help you avoid lines, save money, and have a less stressful visit. Take a look!

May 23, 2006 Nine semi trucks arrived as planned dropping off all of the Star Wars movie artifacts, display cases, interactives, and other exhibit parts. We've been working day and night to get all of the crates into the gallery. In the mean time, our Marketing Department finished the radio commercial with C-3PO actor, Anthony Daniels! It will air on the radio locally over the next couple of months.

May 18, 2006 - View Photos! Couldn't resist another journal entry today! We've made great progress at completing the Millennium Falcon cockpit and hallway. Maybe we should hire droids to complete the repairs to this ship!

May 15, 2006 - View the Photo Series! The first three semi trucks arrived this week with the Robot Object Theater and the Millennium Falcon. The Falcon is a full-sized replica of the ship's cockpit - as we put it together we kept expecting to turn around and see Han Solo or Chewbacca!
April 28, 2006 Our lightsabers are here! We ordered some toy lightsabers as props for the exhibit, and now we can't resist playing. We are training our Box Office team to deal with the long lines we expect this summer to help our visitors maximize their COSI experience.
April 19, 2006 Our designer, Jerry, has been working on a plan for the hallway leading to the Star Wars entrance, which includes flat graphics of C-3PO, R2-D2, and the stormtroopers.
The windows and lights will be blue to create a cool "other-worldly" effect. Elizabeth, our a/v technician, will be installing sleeves of blue gel over the 120 fluorescent lights along the hallway - one at a time!
|

|
April 12, 2006 We installed an air line to run the Airchair. This is a fun exhibit - you get to drive a chair powered by air. It's similar to the idea for Luke's landspeeder from Episode IV, as well as the other "hovercraft" technology you see in the Star Wars movies. The landspeeder used in Episode IV - A New Hope is also in this exhibit - it's the first time it's ever been on display!

April 4, 2006 The Death Star was less scary than all these exhibit floorplans, truck pack diagrams, artifact crate pack lists, and electronic diagrams. Our crew is ready, though. We've been doing the pre-planning - figuring out things, like where all the electrical drops will be.
Since we don't have that many electrical sockets on the wall, like you have in your house, we have to drop electrical cables from the power in the ceiling. Getting all those power cords set up ahead of time is really going to help the installation go faster.
March 21, 2006 We're planning to display Star Wars trivia graphics in the hallway. Yesterday was spent on www.starwars.com and other sites, looking up everything from the inspiration for Chewbacca to how the space battles were designed and filmed.
Our Exhibit Producer's favorite is the "Classic Moments" part of the site, with all the behind-the-scenes stuff. That's what's neat about the exhibit, too - it's got a lot of behind-the-scenes interviews, maquettes, and models.

March 15, 2006 This week has been crazy! We’re trying to coordinate the shipping - it takes 12 semi trucks to carry Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination. There are archival supplies to buy, to handle the Star Wars artifacts.
These are amazing, unique objects like Obi-Wan's light saber, Leia’s “thermal detonator,” and models of both the Rebel and Empire ships. They’ll get here soon, and we’ll have to carefully unpack and condition each object before they go in their display cases.
February 2006 Erik, one of our exhibit designers at COSI, has been working with Boston to create the floorplan for G2. The exhibition has two main themes – "getting around" and "robots & people." In designing the floorplan, we’re trying to keep most of the transportation exhibits in one area, and the robot exhibits in another area.
|

|
With all the display cases, airchair, robots, other interactives, and two theaters, it's a real challenge making them all fit! The exhibit will have a set visitor capacity to ensure everyone is safe and can fully experience and enjoy the exhibit.
January 2006 Star Wars is coming! But before we can install Luke’s Landspeeder, Darth’s helmet, C-3PO, or R2-D2, we have to figure out where they’re going to go. Star Wars is a big exhibition – over 10,000 sq ft... about the size of 2½ high school basketball courts! |

|
We only have one exhibit gallery large enough to fit the exhibit, so Star Wars will go into Gallery 2 (G2) on the second floor. It’s the same place Titanic was, if you were here last summer. Our next step is to figure out where all of the individual exhibit components will go.
