Gadgets for Toddlers

Gear Table

Suggestion Help your child to build a combination of gears.  Ask your child about the different sizes and colors.  Encourage the toddler to turn an individual gear to see the movement of many and then praise your child for the accomplishment.
Concept This exhibit allows your toddler to develop hand/eye coordination and fine motor control as he manipulates a variety of gears in different sizes, shapes, and colors.
Fact Children are constantly looking for opportunities to affect the world.  By turning the gears, they can see how a small movement can cause big changes.  This will enhance their fine motor skills as well as their understanding of cause and effect.

Tune Up

Suggestion Encourage your child to touch the keys and ask what or who made that sound.  Help her to see that it is the toddler's action that is causing the sound to occur.
Concept The child can begin to see the cause and effect relationship when she touches or steps on a piano key to hear a musical note.
Fact Young children's persistent "why" questions show that they are beginning to link cause and effect.
