Pain

Pain

Pain sensors in your body not only report damage but also report conditions that might cause damage.  In this exhibit, you can fool your pain sensors into thinking you are experiencing pain even though you are not.  When you hold onto the handles, they mechanically vibrate at 600 cycles per second (hertz).

At that frequency, your brain interprets the signals as pain though no damage is occurring.  Pain sensors not only report damage but also conditions that might cause damage.
