Altered Voice
Altered Voice gives you a chance to play with your voice. Your voice is digitally recorded and stored in the computer. Once stored, you can instruct the computer to alter its waveform, which is the digital representation of your voice. By using the computer, you can create various sound effects and make your voice sound completely different.Sounds are complex mixtures of the vibrations our ears pick up. Those vibrations are usually vibrating at specific frequencies or combinations of frequencies. Digital recordings are simply mathematical representations of vibrations. Computers can change the variables affecting the mathematical waveform to alter the recording. The recording is sent to a speaker where the digital signal is translated back to vibrations which our ears can "pick up" and send to the brain for translation.
The first artificial larynxes developed were mechanical. They consisted of a metallic reed that vibrated inside a tube that was connected between the mouth and an artificial opening in the speaker's throat called a stoma. Air was forced up the windpipe, through the tube, and across the reed. It was then manipulated in the speaker's mouth to create artificial speech.
