Energy & Environmental Program Intern


Support COSI's mission by providing quality educational programs within the Energy & Environment Strategic Area of Focus. Work in collaboration with the Energy & Environment (E&E) team to research, co-create, and deliver programs and materials that meet audience need. Interact with guests and program participants in E&E related exhibition areas and programs.

Duties & Responsibilities

A. Conduct market research on energy and environmental program offerings in like-minded organizations both locally and nationally.

B. Work in collaboration with the Manager of Energy & Environmental Programs to co-create new and/or revised program content for E&E related programs and exhibition areas.

C. Utilize a variety of methods and learning theories when developing content and experiences in order to accommodate a wide range of ages, audiences, and spaces.

D. Facilitate guest experiences related to E&E program themes and exhibition areas.

E. Assist with E&E special events as needed.

F. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of COSI's workshops and exhibition areas as needed, including:

a. Philosophy, policies, and educational methods and techniques.

b. Function, performance, and operation of all exhibits and program elements.

c. Setup, cleanup, maintenance, and emergency procedures in exhibitions and programs.

G. Support general COSI operations through participation in meetings as appropriate.

H. Serve as an example to other COSI Team Members and Volunteers in matters of appearance, attitude, and performance in a manner best serving COSI paid and Volunteer Team Members and Guests.

I. In accordance with COSI's Guest Services Strategy, and as opportunities present themselves, provide excellence in Guest Services by assuring Guest safety, using courtesy to drive each Guest interaction, by delivering the COSI show, and by keeping operations efficient.

J. Perform other duties as assigned by the Team Leader for Volunteers, Programs and the Director of Strategic Initiatives.


Enrollment in or graduation from a post-secondary course of study in environmental education, biology, ecology or related field is required. Informal science education experience is preferred. The ideal candidate has a passion for educating the public about energy and environmental topics, is organized, detail-oriented and is comfortable with public speaking.
