Early Childhood Educator College Intern

Objective


Support COSI’s mission of sparking interest, piquing curiosity, and introducing very young children and their parents to the process of learning and discovering more about the world around them. Assist Team Leader for little kidspace® and Director of Early Childhood Education in developing, creating and testing activities appropriate for various Early Childhood Education programs. Interact with Guests as they explore little kidspace® and assist in the maintenance of area programs and facilities.




Education and Experience


Ideal candidate will be a team player with the ability to work in a dynamic, boisterous, ever-changing environment; have a passion for interacting with young children; ability to think creatively and research information pertaining to early childhood. Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with young children, primarily birth to 3rd grade, parents, teachers and Team Members required. Educational major in early childhood development and/or education, or equivalent experience preferred.

 




Essential Job Functions


The little kidspace® College Intern will be responsible for researching and developing activities appropriate for several of COSI’s Early Childhood Education programs. Activities will incorporate various science topics with developmental skills appropriate to infants, toddlers or preschoolers according to the program’s needs. Programs include COSI’s current Infant Workshops, Toddler Workshops, PreSchool Workshops, Kindergarten Workshops, and ECE outreach programs.

A. Participate in work related to COSI’s centers of excellence around STEM education transformation and early childhood development and education as needed to insure the success of these initiatives for COSI.
B. Interact with Guests, both children and adults, to enhance their interactions with exhibits during operational hours. Provide Guests with a sense of community and caring when they enter the space. Also, facilitate all programming held within little kidspace® as well as any special activities throughout COSI.
C. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of area including:
• little kidspace® philosophy, policies and operation.
• Function and operation of all exhibits and program elements.
• Setup, cleanup, maintenance, and emergency procedures.
D. Perform necessary maintenance, set-up, and teardown of program materials and exhibition spaces, for daily operation and special events.
E. Generate ideas for and assist with development of programs and special area demonstrations when requested.
F. Perform duties, as required, for programs or special events.
G. Support general COSI operations through participation in meetings as appropriate.
H. Serve as an example to other COSI Team Members and Volunteers in matters of appearance, attitude, and performance in a manner best serving COSI Team Members, Volunteers, and Guests.
I. In accordance with COSI's Guest Services Strategy and as opportunities present themselves, provide excellence in Guest Services by assuring Guest safety, using courtesy to drive each Guest interaction, by delivering the COSI show, and by keeping operations efficient.
