Objective
Enhance the Guest experience by bringing out the inquisitive nature in each individual, incorporating methods such as inquiry, theatre, and demonstration in COSI’s exhibition areas. Support COSI’s mission of sparking interest, piquing curiosity, and facilitating the process of learning and discovering more about the world.
Education and Experience
Ideal candidate will be a team player with the ability to work in a dynamic, boisterous, ever-changing environment; have a passion for educating the public; a willingness to develop characters and research science content; and enjoy working with people of all ages and backgrounds. Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with children, adults, parents, teachers, and Team Members required. Must be comfortable performing in front of large and small audiences, including one-on-one interactions. Interaction audition required of all qualified applicants.
Essential Job Functions
A. Educate and interact with Guests using inquiry-based discovery plans, floor vehicles, and shows in COSI’s Exhibition Areas and performance spaces. Utilize a variety of methods and learning theories to accommodate a wide range of ages, audiences, and spaces.
B. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of the Exhibition Areas including: philosophy, policies, and educational methods and techniques; function, performance, and operation of all exhibits and program elements; and setup, cleanup, maintenance, and emergency procedures.
C. Supervise and evaluate youth and adult Volunteers in the exhibition areas.
D. Perform necessary maintenance, set-up, and teardown of program materials and exhibition spaces, for daily operations and special events.
E. Assist in training new Team Members, paid and Volunteer, in the Exhibition Areas.
F. Provide creative input to enhance the learning and exploration of the Exhibition Areas, including development of scripts, educational materials, and programming.
G. Perform duties, as required, for special events.
H. Support general COSI operations through participation in meetings as appropriate.
I. Serve as an example to other COSI Team Members and Volunteers in matters of appearance, attitude, and performance in a manner best serving COSI Team Members, Volunteers, and Guests.
J. In accordance with COSI's Guest Services Strategy and as opportunities present themselves, provide excellence in Guest Services by assuring Guest safety, using courtesy to drive each Guest interaction, by delivering the COSI show, and by keeping operations efficient.
K. Perform other duties as assigned by the Faculty Leader for Attractions/Scheduling.
