Career Ladder Assistant

Status Age 18+, work-study, part-time, hourly, non-exempt
Hours 1 day per week minimum (7 hour shift) up to 20 hours/week; weekdays and weekends
Pay Competitive hourly wage determined by college/university


Objective


Assist the Manager of Career Ladder & Floor Faculty Volunteers as well as the Manager of Youth Volunteer Services in performing tasks centered on the improvement of COSI’s Volunteer Program. Assist in leading large trainings sessions for our youth and lead Volunteers on topics such as Guest Services, Presentation Skills, How to Lead a Buddy Tour, and Early Childhood Development. Complete evaluations of Lead and Youth Volunteers, and conduct training on hallway demonstrations. Assist with the interviewing of new Volunteers.




Education and Experience


Ideal candidate is detail-oriented and flexible; enjoys working on a team; able to follow through on tasks; and has a friendly, helpful attitude. Excellent customer service skills; verbal and written communication skills; strong data entry skills; a working knowledge of Microsoft Office; and excellent organizational and clerical skills are required. Current enrollment at The Ohio State University or Columbus State Community College; and enrolled in the Federal Work-Study program REQUIRED. Educational background in Education, Communication, Psychology; or equivalent experience preferred.




Essential Job Functions


A. Develop and maintain a promotional/communication piece about the Career Ladder participants.

B. Create and maintain the Career Ladder Recognition Board in Volunteer Space.

C. Maintain an up-to-date record of hours served by volunteers; and assist with hour audits and recognitions.

D. Identify those Volunteers needing to take the White STAR Test, assess needs, and assist with studying as necessary. Communicate with the Manager of Career Ladder & Floor Faculty Volunteers to schedule and proctor the quiz. Award White STARs as needed, notifying the Manager of Career Ladder & Floor Faculty Volunteers and recording the recognition.

E. Maintain the Career Ladder tracking document; and, as needed, other tracking documents, including trainings and evaluation schedules.

F. Communicate Youth Programming Opportunities to Volunteers.

G. Assist with record management relating to the scheduling of Floor Faculty Volunteers.

H. Assist with the intake process of Youth Volunteers; conducting Youth Volunteer interviews; First Day Trainings; and other trainings (Foundation or otherwise).

I. Aid in the distribution of the Volunteer Newsletter.

J. Support general COSI operations through participation in meetings as appropriate.

K. Serve as an example to other COSI Team Members and Volunteers in matters of appearance, attitude, and performance in a manner best serving COSI paid and Volunteer Team Members and Guests.

L. In accordance with COSI's Guest Services Strategy, and as opportunities present themselves, provide excellence in Guest Services by assuring Guest safety, using courtesy to drive each Guest interaction, by delivering the COSI show, and by keeping operations efficient.

M. Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of Career Ladder & Floor Faculty Volunteers.
