Planetarium Usher (click for details)

Objective

Planetarium Ushers will work alongside COSI team members to engage our guests in a learning adventure as they explore the wonders of space through our planetarium at COSI. Ushers will be helping with the loading and unloading of shows, and will be roaming the space exhibit between shows to help facilitate guests learning. Ushers are expected to learn content pieces to facilitate and extend learning while between various shows.

Duties & Responsibilities

Requirements:
A. NO prior professional planetarium or space experience
B. Enthusiasm for learning and willingness to engage with guests of all ages and learning levels to share in the wonder of space
C. Strong desire to educate and work with public
D. Highly flexible and versatile when responding to the needs of COSI and guests
E. Capacity to work on a team and independently
F. Knowledge of telescopes or current astronomy is advantageous, but not required.
G. Must be at least 18 years of age (over 21 for COSI After Dark shifts)

Training:
On-the-job training by staff and experienced volunteers, formal group trainings and enrichment

Specifications

  • Hours: Minimum of one shift in a month

    Shifts:
    10:30 am - 2 pm (with a break)

    1:30 pm - 5 pm (with a break)
