    Animal Tales

In this wild hands-on program, you’ll encounter habitats, adaptations, and the science behind what all living things need as you meet and touch some of COSI’s real animals! Then, you’ll become a zoologist yourself and examine real animal furs, construct your own paw print “animal trails,” view real animal X-rays, and get up close and personal with living worms! Best of all, you can build a healthy habitat around a real, living reptile and watch her explore her new home!

    • Grade Level: Toddler - Grade 2

    Magnets, Mixing, and Motion

Transform your classroom into a physics lab to investigate the science behind gravity, magnetism, and chemical reactions! First, we’ll explore force – the “push and pull” that power our world – to build ramps, “fish” for magnets, and send corks flying. Then, you’ll become a scientist as you build gravity-powered magnetic marble courses, put torque to the test using real tools, build with magnetic blocks, launch film canisters, and much more! It’s a fizzing, popping, twisting, turning, pushing, pulling scientific experience!

    Junior Engineer

Design, build, test, and redesign! Engineers use energy, math, and science to solve problems as they design the roads, bridges, buildings, and schools we see every day! We’ll start by exploring the energy around us – at work whenever something lights up, makes noise, or moves – and how it flows through circuits. Then, you’ll become an engineer yourself to build sky-high topple towers, energize light bulbs and fans, test out rolling ramps, and even program real robots to complete a challenge!

    • Grade Level: Preschool - Grade 1

    Beginner Robotics

What is a robot? How does it work? There’s one way to find out. In this incredible introductory workshop, you’ll explore energy, circuitry, and the “language” robots speak: programming! Then, you’ll take control of your own hand-held Bee-Bot and test out COSI’s customized challenges that connect to grade-level literature, science, and mathematics standards! Then, you’ll use real excavation tools to study fossil remains, solve the puzzle of Earth’s geological layers and its massive time scale, measure yourself against dinosaur footprints to grasp the size of these enormous creatures, and even interact with a real, living dino-descendant brought right to you.

    • Grade Level: Grades 1-8

    Gadgets-To-Go

Sometimes science can be wild! Put teamwork to the test and try out the engineering process to get hands-on with motion, mechanics, robotics, and more! First, we’ll explore potential and kinetic energy and how they power the world around us. Then, you’ll send marbles rolling down magnetic roller coasters, build circuits to make music, program real robots, and design, build, test, and redesign your own floating contraptions in our five-foot-tall mobile wind tube! Crank the biggest gadget of all – your brain!

    • Grade Level: Grades 1-6

Explore “levitation” by manipulating air pressure, explore potential and kinetic energy, use the states of matter to create flight, and learn the ingredients of a cloud by making real clouds right in the classroom! Pass Hero Training and you’ll get a chance to touch COSI’s famous Electrostatic Generator to see (and feel!) the shocking power of electricity at work! You can keep the city safe with science on your side!

    • Grade Level: Grades 1-8

    Animal Adventures

Bring the science of living things to your classroom in this interactive ecological adventure. First, you’ll meet and touch some of COSI’s live animals to explore their adaptations, diets, and habitats. Then, you’ll touch real animal furs, piece together life cycle puzzles, and build a habitat around a living reptile. With a dichotomous key and video microscope, you’ll inspect real arthropods to decide “Is it a bug?” and explore the science of animal tracking by getting up close and personal with animal tracks… and the scat they leave behind!

    • Grade Level: Grades 3-8

    Beginner Coding*

NEW! Have a favorite video game? Ever wonder how it’s made? In this workshop, you’ll use MIT’s Scratch platform to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically. Rat Basketball: The Away Game

Yep, real rats! COSI’s famous Rat Basketball hits the road in this one-of-a-kind outreach workshop exploring the science of psychology! How can a rodent with a penny-sized brain learn to play basketball? Better yet, why would we teach an animal a behavior so opposed to its nature? In this hands-on program, you’ll explore behavior conditioning and see its strength as you test positive reinforcement on your classmates. Then, you’ll cheer on the rats as they compete in a one-on-one lightning round showdown!

    • Grade Level: Grades 3-12
