Friday, 03 May 2019

COLUMBUS, OH – COSI and NASA will form an unprecedented partnership impacting thousands of people at the COSI Science Festival May 1-4, 2019. Each of NASA’s ten research centers will bring examples of their work along with hands-on activities to the COSI Science Festival NASA will also host a special exhibition May 1-3 in COSI’s Atrium for visitors to enjoy as well as support the COSI Science Festival’s Citywide Star Party at COSI on the evening of May 3. The exhibit moves outdoors for the Big Science Celebration on Saturday, May 4, from 11am to 4pm.

“NASA will be an incredible addition to the COSI Science Festival,” said Dr. Bertley. “This is a fantastic partnership between the world’s leading space exploration organization and our premier science center to engage and inspire COSI Science Festival participants. Tremendous care and planning has gone into the COSI Science Festival and it is phenomenal to have NASA recognize that and join us at our inaugural Festival.”

Festival attendees will explore science, flight and space exploration through NASA’s hands-on, interactive exhibits and activities including:

  • a virtual reality chair, where visitors can get a sense of what it might be like to sit on the surface of Jupiter’s frozen water moon Europa while watching a video about NASA’s planetary missions;
  • three activities that demonstrate how sound travels through the air, how humans survive at high altitudes and the altitudes where objects fly;
  • an Oculus Go demonstration that will take visitors on a trip from Earth to the Moon, and explore space communication with NASA’s Tracking and Data Relay Satellite; and,
